RobMobil for luminance measurements

Simulation and real measurement of luminance at Volkswagen

With RobMobil, Volkswagen is using the mobile robotic measuring with a 7-axis cobot and a luminance camera for automated luminance measurements on the exterior for the first time.

With RobSimulation software and CAD vehicle data, automated start-up, in particular positioning the camera vertically on the normal vectors of the measurement points, is virtually simulated. The completely simulated process is transferred directly to RobMobil. With measurement optics on the cobot hand, the RobMobil measures itself into the vehicle coordinate system, moves to the individual measurement points and carries out the luminance measurements on headlamps or light strips independently.

Functional exterior/interior vehicle protection systems can now be virtually programmed offline and carried out independently with the mobile, autonomous robotic measuring. The result is considerable time savings and thus cost savings in quality assurance.
