For automated luminance measurements, Volkswagen is using a mobile robot platform with a 6-axis cobot (collaborative robot) and a colour luminance camera mounted on the robot hand for the first time in the Cubing division. The mobile measuring robotics is flexibly designed so that both exterior parts such as headlights and interior parts (e.g. light strips) can be measured.

‍The RobSimulation software and the CAD vehicle data are used to virtually simulate the vertical positioning of the camera on the normal vectors of the measuring points. The fully simulated process is transferred directly to the real system. Using measuring optics on the cobot hand, the cobot measures itself into the vehicle coordinate system, moves to the individual measuring points and carries out the luminance measurements independently.
